1/8/18: Practice at Cooper on Monday; we were not able to get a bus to go to Elm Creek

Updates for the week of 1/8:

Monday, 1/8: Practice at Elm Creek

  • Varsity and JV: Your choice of skate or classic.  Our meet this week is classic, and, if you'd like to practice classic, I think that's a great choice.  Don't worry if your classic skis don't have the correct glide wax--you can rewax at practice on Tuesday.  We'll bring the kick wax.  If you are skiing JV and don't have classic skis, you'll be using your skate skis as combi skis and skiing classic on them.  Again, we can rewax on Tuesday at practice.
    • If you'd rather practice skate, you'll be working on V1 stamina up the hills.  That is also a good choice, so I leave it up to your individual decision.
    • Please review the videos under "Resources" in the "Classic Technique" folder.
  • Developmental (New) Skiers: Skate
    • For the developmental race this week, you may still skate.  If you'd like to try classic, you may do so in the race the following week.
  • All Skiers:
    • Remember to bring your pink Three Rivers Parks Trail Pass.  If you forget your pass, you will need to purchase a day pass for $9 + tax in order to ski on Monday.
    • The bus leaves Cooper at 2:35.  Come down quickly and load up.
    • RMS skiers, please change and be ready for the bus by 2:55 pm in the usual location.  Bring your boots.  If your skis and poles are in the bins at school, we will bring them for you. If your boots are at Cooper, please contact one of the high school skiers and kindly ask them to get your boots out of your locker.

Wednesday, 1/10: Classic Race at Hyland

  • Due to a continued lack of natural snow, our classic race originally scheduled at Baker for Thursday will now be on Wednesday at Hyland.  The race times will remain the same.
Change for next week's meet: The meet will now be held on Wednesday, 1/10, at Hyland.

Updates for the Thursday, Jan. 4, meet at Theo Wirth--Please read carefully:

Skate race for all skiers: Varsity, JV, and new skiers (developmental race)

The wax room at Cooper will be open beginning at 11:30 am for those who need to wax.  Teal is still the wax of the day.

The bus leaves Cooper from the athletic area (normal spot) at 2 pm.

Race schedule is as follows (but subject to change once the meet starts):
3:45 pm - Girls Varsity
~4:00 pm - Boys Varsity
~4:15 pm - Girls JV
~4:30 pm - Boys JV
~4:45 pm - Girls Developmental (new skiers)
~4:50 pm - Boys Developmental (new skiers)

The bus will return to Cooper between 6-6:30 pm.

The specific course at Wirth is still TBD; however, the Varsity and JV races will be approximately 4.75-5K in length, and the developmental race should be shorter: 2-3k.

The current predicted high for Thursday is 2F above zero, but, by the end of the meet, the temp will likely drop to -1F or lower.  Please dress warmly and in many layers!

Racing: Varsity wears spandex uniforms; all others race in the Cooper warmups you were issued for this year.  If the warmup pants don't fit well, you may race in other black or blue pants, but be sure to race in your Cooper warmup jacket.

Remember that hats may only have one large logo or two small logos.

Given the weather for tomorrow, make sure you have at least the following:
Hat, gloves/mittens, scarf/buff/balaclava, multiple layers of clothes for top and bottom, 2 pairs of socks, dry clothes to change into after your race.  Sunglasses are also recommended both to cut the glare as it will likely be sunny tomorrow and to protect your eyes from the cold.

Questions?  Schoology message me.

See you tomorrow!
