font-size: 12pt;\">HR leaders must address four emerging myths around employee productivity that could impact their organizations\u2019 ability to achieve desired growth, according to Gartner, Inc.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/article>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"globalsite cmp-globalsite-columncontrol aem-GridColumn aem-GridColumn--default--12\">\n<section class=\"column-control  grid-norm no-top-bottom \">\n<div class=\"row       xs-flex-direction-column sm-flex-direction-column\">\n<div class=\"col-lg-9 col-md-8 col-sm-12 col-xs-12 \">\n<div class=\"aem-Grid aem-Grid--12 aem-Grid--default--12 \">\n<div class=\"globalsite cmp-globalsite-articletext aem-GridColumn aem-GridColumn--default--12\">\n<article class=\"article-text grid-norm  margin-top-bottom mg-t16 rmg-b32\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">A November 2024 survey of more than 450 actively employed CEOs and other senior executive business leaders revealed that their most critical challenges to leading and growing their enterprise are\u00a0talent and workforce\u00a0(23%) and culture and people management (13%).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">\u201cAs traditional avenues of growth like market consolidation, labor arbitrage and cheap financing show signs of diminishing returns, CEOs are looking to employee productivity to fuel their growth ambitions in 2025 and beyond,\u201d said\u00a0<strong>Brent Cassell, Vice President, Advisory\u200b in the\u00a0Gartner HR practice.<\/strong> \u201cHowever, productivity remains difficult for most employers to define, measure and impact.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Gartner has identified a working measure of productivity for knowledge workers that significantly improves\u00a0business outcomes, such as revenue, profitability and brand reputation: employees doing quality work consistently and on time \u2013 employee efficiency \u2013 and employees devoting their time and skills to work that is results oriented and focused on organizational priorities \u2013 employee value creation. \u200b<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">The four emerging productivity myths that HR must address to drive their organizations desired business outcomes include:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/article>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"globalsite cmp-globalsite-heading aem-GridColumn aem-GridColumn--default--12\">\n<div class=\"grid-norm  rmg-t32 mg-b16 margin-top-bottom\">\n<h3 class=\"h4 default headingRuleDefault\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Myth No. 1: Productivity Is Not HR\u2019s Job<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"globalsite cmp-globalsite-articletext aem-GridColumn aem-GridColumn--default--12\">\n<article class=\"article-text grid-norm  margin-top-bottom mg-t16 rmg-b32\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><strong>Fact:\u00a0<\/strong>A December 2024 Gartner survey of more than 1,900 managers of knowledge workers found that with direct HR involvement, employees can be up to 11% more productive.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">\u201cEmployees, managers, and business leaders view productivity in different \u2013 and occasionally contradictory \u2013 ways and HR is the glue that holds them together,\u201d said\u00a0Swagatam Basu, Senior Director in the\u00a0Gartner HR practice.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">The HR function must do four things to play an active partnership role in shaping productivity initiatives at their organization:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Include productivity in HR strategy to secure their seat at the table<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Identify collaboration opportunities for cross-functional productivity initiatives<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Articulate the talent tradeoffs of productivity initiatives to the C-Suite<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Champion employee needs in productivity strategy<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/article>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"globalsite cmp-globalsite-heading aem-GridColumn aem-GridColumn--default--12\">\n<div class=\"grid-norm  rmg-t32 mg-b16 margin-top-bottom\">\n<h3 class=\"h4 default headingRuleDefault\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Myth No. 2: Using AI Equals Quick Productivity Growth<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"globalsite cmp-globalsite-articletext aem-GridColumn aem-GridColumn--default--12\">\n<article class=\"article-text grid-norm  margin-top-bottom mg-t16 rmg-b32\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><strong>Fact:<\/strong>\u00a0While many leaders expect GenAI to be a growth and productivity driver, a December 2024 Gartner survey of more than 3,400 knowledge workers revealed that just 8% of employees are fully capturing productivity gains by\u00a0using GenAI\u00a0tools often and experiencing both speed and quality improvements.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">To achieve the desired productivity benefits of GenAI, HR must plug three productivity leaks: limited awareness, inconsistent adoption and ineffective use. To do so, HR must leverage its core competencies in change management, learning and development and employee experience.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">When an organization addresses employees\u2019 awareness, adoption and use of GenAI, employees can be up to 8% more productive, and they\u2019re 2.7 times as likely to experience speed and quality gains from GenAI.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/article>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"globalsite cmp-globalsite-heading aem-GridColumn aem-GridColumn--default--12\">\n<div class=\"grid-norm  rmg-t32 mg-b16 margin-top-bottom\">\n<h3 class=\"h4 default headingRuleDefault\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Myth No. 3: Onsite Employees Are More Productive Than Hybrid Employees<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"globalsite cmp-globalsite-articletext aem-GridColumn aem-GridColumn--default--12\">\n<article class=\"article-text grid-norm  margin-top-bottom mg-t16 rmg-b32\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><strong>Fact<\/strong>: A December 2024 Gartner survey of 3,061 managers of knowledge workers found that the same percentage of\u00a0onsite employees\u00a0and hybrid employees (21%) were ranked as highly productive.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">\u201cSince onsite employees and hybrid employees are equally productive, it\u2019s clear that productivity is not about where work gets done, it\u2019s about how work gets done,\u201d said Basu.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Gartner analysis of more than 100 work attributes revealed that a supportive team culture has the greatest positive impact on the productivity of both hybrid and onsite employees, increasing employee productivity by up to 11%.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">To create a supportive team culture that facilitates productivity, HR leaders need to do two things:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Enable managers to build team environments where discussions of productivity are used as a positive driving force for team initiatives<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Encourage teams to decide their own core productivity values and ensure feedback is in-line with those ideals and associated behaviors\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/article>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"globalsite cmp-globalsite-heading aem-GridColumn aem-GridColumn--default--12\">\n<div class=\"grid-norm  rmg-t32 mg-b16 margin-top-bottom\">\n<h3 class=\"h4 default headingRuleDefault\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Myth No. 4: More Data Improves Productivity<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"globalsite cmp-globalsite-articletext aem-GridColumn aem-GridColumn--default--12\">\n<article class=\"article-text grid-norm  margin-top-bottom mg-t16 rmg-b32\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><strong>Fact<\/strong>: Organizations that rely too heavily on quantitative data to improve employee productivity can omit non-measurable and non-digital labor, inadvertently encourage employees to game the system and negatively impact\u00a0employee engagement.\u200b<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">\u201cData is useful, but on its own can provide an incomplete picture,\u201d said Cassell. \u201cWhat\u2019s needed is understanding the context in which that data was collected. Investing in getting detailed contextual information for a focused set of metrics has almost twice the impact on employee productivity compared to investing in acquiring more quantitative data on a variety of metrics.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">HR can take two actions to ensure their productivity data comes with the needed context:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Involve those who know the work best in shaping productivity metrics<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Include local perspectives in interpretation of productivity metrics<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Organizations that take action on all four emerging productivity myths can increase employee productivity by up to 35%, which translates into an individual employee working 2.8 more hours a day, generating more than $47,000+ in extra revenue annually.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/article>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Gartner HR Research Identifies Four Myths That Are Hampering Employee Productivity HR leaders must address four emerging myths around employee productivity that could impact their organizations\u2019 ability to achieve desired growth, according to Gartner, Inc.
