These are among the findings included in a new report from\u00a0Forbes Insights and\u00a0Vertiv <a href=\"https:\/\/vertiv.africa-newsroom.com\/press\/countlinks\/105082\/https:%7D%7Dwww.vertiv.com%7Den-us%7Dabout%7Dnews-and-insights%7Darticles%7Dwhite-papers%7Dthe-modern-data-center%7D\/website\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">\u201cThe Modern Data Center: How IT is Adapting to New Technologies and Hyperconnectivity,\u201d<\/a> examines the results of a survey of 150 data center executives and engineers from various industries around the world.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">The survey results indicate a troubling lack of planning and preparation for today\u2019s evolving data ecosystem. A closer examination of the results reveals a stark contrast between executives and engineers: 11% of executives say their data centers are updated ahead of current needs while just 1% of engineers say the same.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">\u201cAs today\u2019s data center evolves to incorporate enterprise, cloud and edge resources, thorough planning and foresight is needed to meet organizational computing requirements and business objectives,\u201d said Martin Olsen, vice president of Global Edge Systems for Vertiv. \u201cIt is clear, however, that many organizations are lagging on that front. With that in mind, we anticipate considerable investment and activity among businesses trying to catch up and get ahead of the changes.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Other notable results from the survey:<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"first\"><span style=\"font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">92% of CIOs and CTOs say their business will require faster download and response times in the near future.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">63% say they have difficulty meeting bandwidth needs at all times.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Security (45%) and bandwidth (43%) are the two areas most in need of upgrades.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Security (43%), backup and emergency preparedness (33%), the ability to implement new technologies (28%) and bandwidth (27%) were the most commonly identified features that will give businesses a competitive advantage.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"last\"><span style=\"font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Respondents are bullish on self-configuring and self-healing data centers. 24% said more than half of their data centers will be self-configuring by 2025, and 32% said more than half would be self-healing.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><strong>Pierre Havenga, Managing Director of Vertiv MEA, said, <\/strong>across the Middle East we are experiencing a drastic increase in demand from customers driven by wholesale requirements as well as uptake to improve efficiency in their existing data centers. On the other hand, in Africa there are 2 types of data center needs we experience from customers: the first is legacy data centers with limited white space for expansion \u2013 these customers require Vertiv\u2019s expertise to increase the power density of their racks and drastically improve their efficiencies.
