Our findings show that while leaders may feel they\u2019re prepared, their employees aren\u2019t so sure, and often feel more confident in their own adaptability.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif; color: #800000;\"><strong>Technology and rapid pace of change will require leaders to learn new skills.<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif;\"><strong>When it comes to the leading trends leaders need to keep in mind<\/strong>, respondents viewed artificial intelligence (59%), pace of change (36%), and customer demands and expectations (32%) as most important things to address.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif;\"><strong>Ethics and transparency also ranked highly as a trend impacting leaders,\u00a0<\/strong>with nearly a third citing this (30%), underscoring the importance of trust and transparency in the era of digital disruption.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif;\"><strong>Employees feel they\u2019re taking more definitive action to prepare for these trends.\u00a0<\/strong>More than 50% of respondents stated they are \u201cdefinitely\u201d taking steps to prepare, while 56% noted their leadership is only \u201csomewhat\u201d prepared.<\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/content.linkedin.com\/content\/dam\/me\/news\/en-us\/images\/Trends-shaping-the-future-of-leadership-image01_approved.jpg\" width=\"751\" height=\"872\" \/><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif; color: #800000;\"><strong>Leadership that prioritizes people, purpose, and agility will come out ahead.\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif;\"><strong>55% of respondents indicated a purpose driven and caring mindset was the number one thing leaders should be striving for<\/strong>, \u00a0followed by embracing technology (47%), and agility and nimbleness (46%). Given that\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mckinsey.com\/featured-insights\/future-of-work\/jobs-lost-jobs-gained-what-the-future-of-work-will-mean-for-jobs-skills-and-wages\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">estimates note one-third of the U.S. workforce\u00a0 will need to enter new occupational categories by 2030<\/a>, this agility and willingness to embrace change will be critical.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif;\"><strong>A purpose-driven mindset will be critical to hiring and retaining new talent.<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0We\u2019ve seen this trend before, purpose is a driver of engagement based on data\u00a0by Glint, a leader of employee engagement. We\u2019ve also found that more than half (52%) of U.S. millennials prioritize \u201cvalues\u201d over a paycheck.<\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/content.linkedin.com\/content\/dam\/me\/news\/en-us\/images\/Practicing-the-Mindsets-for-The-Future-Leader_v1.jpg\" width=\"731\" height=\"396\" \/><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif; color: #800000;\"><strong>Soft skills are more than a bonus, they\u2019re table stakes.\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif;\"><strong>Leaders won\u2019t just need to be purpose-driven, they\u2019ll also need to be inspiring.<\/strong>\u00a0When it comes to skills, more than half (51%) of respondents said leaders would need to know how to be motivated, engaging, and inspiring.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif;\"><strong>Being emotionally intelligent (39%), and having listening and communication skills (34%) also topped the list<\/strong>, echoing recent research that found emotional intelligence is one of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/business.linkedin.com\/talent-solutions\/blog\/trends-and-research\/2020\/most-in-demand-hard-and-soft-skills\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">the most in-demand skills in the world<\/a>.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif;\"><strong>However, over half of respondents (51%) don\u2019t think their leaders are currently practicing these skills well\u00a0<\/strong>and are more likely to be confident in their own skills, with 68% indicating they believe they are practicing these skills \u201cwell\u201d or \u201creasonably well.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif; color: #800000;\"><strong>Overcoming talent challenges is top of mind.<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif;\"><strong>Competition for top talent is tighter than ever,<\/strong>\u00a0and attracting and retaining talent is the leading challenge leaders will need to address (45%).\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif;\"><strong>Professionals are aware their jobs are changing,<\/strong>\u00a0noting that adapting to technological advancements and changes (44%), and reskilling or upskilling employees (40%)\u00a0 were the next biggest challenges.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'trebuchet ms', geneva, sans-serif;\"><strong>Respondents are not positive on the outlook of how prepared their leaders are to face these future challenges in the workplace<\/strong>, with 59% indicating \u201cnot well at all and \u201csomewhat well\u201d.
