Last time we spoke to the Massachusetts company, it was around a sizable raise \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2021\/02\/17\/locus-robotics-has-raised-a-150m-series-e\/\">$150 million to be nearly precise<\/a>. That effectively valued the company as a unicorn.<\/p>\n<p>Core to the company\u2019s successes are its partnerships (as is the case with any robotics fulfillment company). DHL has been a big (or the biggest) name in the mix since 2017. At last count, it said it had deployed around 200,000 across the U.S. alone, which puts its right around the same number as Amazon (which admittedly, hasn\u2019t updated that figure lately). Of course, the big difference there is that Amazon is primarily pulling from in-house systems \u2014 perhaps Locus is a prime acquisition target?<\/p>\n<p>The robotics company\u2019s CEO shot down that suggestion when I spoke to him earlier this year, stating, \u201cWe have no interest in being acquired. We think we can build the most and greatest value by operating independently. The Boston-based company is one of a number of startups looking to streamline the process of installing and deploying industrial robotics. Honestly, I didn\u2019t really thing this one all the way through before I started typing. Anyway, here\u2019s an early-stage, pre-seed from a London based startup <a href=\"https:\/\/pitchbook.com\/profiles\/company\/467073-82#overview\">called E-Nano<\/a>. The company has developed a modular robotics system for monitoring sports turf.<\/p>\n<p>Per a press release on the \u00a3100,000 ($141,000) raise, \u201cThese robots will eventually be able to assess agricultural land and contribute to landowners growing more sustainably. The team aims to implement 5G connectivity into their robots and platform, using this raise to deliver more immediate, real-time data with high throughput.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1984982\" src=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/ezgif-4-34d7bb322e1c-1.gif\" alt width=\"600\" height=\"338\"><\/p>\n<p>Some good news for DJI comes <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/policy\/defense\/556370-pentagon-report-clears-use-of-drones-made-by-top-chinese-manufacturer?rl=1\">courtesy of The Hill<\/a>, which reports that the Pentagon has effectively cleared the drone giant in an audit. DJI was one of the names caught up in all of the flagging of Chinese companies that\u2019s occurred over the past couple of years (read: during the Trump administration), which has severely kneecapped brands like Huawei and ZTE.
