NEW DELHI :\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>The Indian Performing Right Society Limited (“IPRS”) is pleased to announce that it has collaborated with Amazon India in respect of the IPRS music publishing repertoire for Amazon Prime Music in\u00a0India<\/span>\u00a0(for Musical & Literary Works).<\/p>\n

Amazon\u00a0India’s<\/span>\u00a0recently launched ad-free music streaming service, Amazon Prime Music, will receive access to the IPRS repertoire of more than a million works\/titles spread across multiple languages, eras and genres of Indian music.<\/p>\n

IPRS which was granted registration as a Copyright Society by the Government of\u00a0India<\/span>\u00a0in\u00a0November 2017<\/span>\u00a0under the Copyright Act, 1957 represents more than 4,000 Indian authors, composers and major music publishers, which include Saregama, Times Music, Sony, Aditya, Tips Music and Venus. IPRS administers lyrics and musical works as an assignee of its members in respect of communication to the public and mechanical rights in lyrics and musical works. As a Copyright Society, IPRS is also authorised to collect royalty on behalf of its author and music composer members.<\/p>\n

Mr.\u00a0Javed Akhtar<\/span><\/b>,<\/b>\u00a0the Chairman of IPRS<\/b>,<\/b>\u00a0said,\u00a0“The IPRS arrangement with Amazon\u00a0India<\/span>\u00a0heralds a new era\u00a0for IPRS\u00a0and the music community in the country.\u00a0With a strongly united IPRS,\u00a0Indian lyricists and\u00a0music composers can finally now start to reap the benefits of the historic changes to the Copyright law in India\u00a0along with our music publisher members. IPRS looks forward to similar collaborative\u00a0and\u00a0positive relationships with platforms in India and is committed to\u00a0transparent and ethical functioning.”<\/p>\n

Mr.\u00a0<\/b>Sahas Malhotra, Director Amazon Music,\u00a0India<\/span><\/b>,<\/b>\u00a0said,<\/b>\u00a0“We are happy to collaborate\u00a0with IPRS and keen to strengthen our ties with all important stakeholders in the Indian music industry.\u00a0We will continue to offer a transformative music listening experience to our customers with the ad-free Amazon Prime Music offering that comes at no additional cost to Prime members in\u00a0India<\/span>.”<\/p>\n
